See how the ancient & versatile medium offers many creative directions for artists from simple ‘craft’ type projects to endless uses with more ‘fine art’ works.  It can have a detailed representational or quite abstract look.
The word encaustic comes from Greece and means to burn in which refers to the process of fusing the wax paint onto a rigid surface.
It makes artwork very durable, seals & dries immediately. Encaustic-wax is usually a mixture of molten beeswax, damar resin with pigments or oil paint. Jacki was an art teacher in a previous life & would like to share her passion & own art experiences she now has with this medium.
At this classes you’re sure to find out that encaustic wax is unlike any other medium and provides something for everyone !
About Foundation classes
All equipment, heat tools, wax medium, brushes & most materials are provided in introduction classes. You will learn how to make your encaustic medium & paints as well how easy & economically you can set up your own space @ home.
Handout notes will be provided at these classes listing resources and info on encaustic history, safety, equipment, tools & materials.
Basic painting techniques & various mark making experiments will be demonstrated over different sessions. Creation of translucent, rich & textured surfaces from layering, drawing, printing, writing, stencils, inlay, incising, scraping, collage, image transfer, shellac burn & mixed media will be shown.
These exercises combined with attention to art fundamentals will give each student many examples of their own individual work to develop. It is suitable for all abilities as well as those with prior encaustic experience.

I suggest you research this medium as much you can, either with books, other artists’ work or videos online as well, as it may help you to find your style preferences.

About Encaustics & Paper classes  ( It is not essential to have prior experience with this medium )

Focus will be made on working with different papers using methods such as immersing, monoprinting, drawing & painting on a hotplate.  Incorporating collage, photo images & your own drawings or paintings will also be discussed.
